5 WAYS TO GROW AS A PROPHETIC SINGER

I can still remember when, almost fifteen years ago, I began my journey of singing. This journey is a thrilling and joyous adventure, but I wish that someone would have told me of the internal battles that I would face and share with me keys to overcome those battles. Here are a few of the things that I've learned (and continue to learn) that I would love to pass onto you.

1) Know why you sing.

Many of us begin our singing journeys because of positions that need to be filled. Though I love the culture this creates, a culture of risk-taking and boldness, many of us are not forced to grapple with the bottom-line reason that we sing. It is vital to take time to dig into the biblical command to sing and the role of singing in the Bible. Get ready for your mind to be blown.

2) Don't be surprised by the seasons.

If you haven't experienced it already, there will be many seasons of promotion and demotion that will come your way in your journey as a singer. You can, overnight, go from being the one so sought after to being completely hidden overnight. Don't allow this to shake your focus. Whether on a stage before thousands or alone in your bedroom, keep your eyes fixed on why you sing, the One who delights in hearing your voice, and keep going.

3) Make the Word your foundation.

As singers, we are disciple-makers. The words that we sing are written on hearts in powerful ways. This is why we need to make the Bible our foundation of everything that proceeds from our mouths. Through the Word, life, breath, and refreshing water is at our fingertips, but we have to sink our roots into it in order to be able to release it to others. If we want power on our singing, we have to build on the Word.

4) Embrace boldness.

Though so much easier said than done, we have to fight to choose boldness as singers. The Lord delights in our songs and when we lift our voices, things moves in heaven and on earth. Because he doesn't want your song to go forth, the Enemy will try to whisper His lies and accusations into your ears and to get you to close your mouth and step back in shame. Don't listen. Lift up your voice

5) Listen for His voice.

The Holy Spirit is wanting to partner with us in the song that we bring forth. He has searched out the depths of the knowledge of Christ and wants to share it with us. Our job is just to open up our ears and sing the revelations from His heart. Step out, take a chance, and press in to hear His voice.
