Jesus, Our Shepherd
“The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.”
Psalm 23 helps us in our daily search for comfort from the stresses of this world.
When reading this Psalm, I personally find it helpful to remember this: Jesus knows what it means to be both the shepherd and the sheep. As our shepherd, He lovingly leads and provides for us. But in His suffering, He also became “like a lamb led to the slaughter” (Isaiah 53:7). Jesus understands pain, loneliness, and fear because He walked through it Himself.
Psalm 23 reveals a shepherd who guides and shields His people in a beautifully personal way. He isn’t a distant, unreachable voice! He is right there alongside us to provide peace in our anxieties. He sees our struggles and daily stresses, and calls us to rest in Him. And just as the Psalm promises, He restores our soul. Not only for comfort, but that we may continue to glorify His name.
Our circumstances may not always change, but we can trust that we have a God who holds our hand, leading us beside the still waters, and calming our soul.
remembering He is our shepherd
Take some time to remember that God is a shepherd to you. He is the only one who can lead you perfectly and all you have to do is say yes to His leadership. Thank Him for how He has led you.
Lord, thank you for being the One who leads me.
Thank you for leading me in paths of righteousness daily and helping me to trust you.
Guide me in my daily walk. Amen.
